Racing Beat Header

With the 4:1 header project, our initial performance objective was to retain the mid-range performance (3,000-5,000 RPM) of the current 4-2-1 (Tri-Y) header, and improve the top-end performance (5,000-7,000 RPM) normally associated with the 4:1 type header. Initial testing on this project took place almost entirely on the chassis dyno. A rather strange looking test header was configured that allowed us to actually change the primary and/or secondary lengths while the car was strapped to the dyno. The test header assembly pointed upwards out of the engine compartment then bolted up to the complete stock exhaust system. This entire assembly was suspended over the car by a specially built frame. Over 200 on-chassis dyno runs allowed us to determine the optimum tubing diameter and lengths for both the primary and secondary tubes. We also took the opportunity to experiment with various engine-to-header flange porting configurations and collector designs. This development allowed us to fine-tune the performance of this header to achieve our performance requirements.

After repeated test sessions, we finally found the optimal combination that allowed us to achieve our target goal. The top end power had improved and the mid-range power was retained.

Manufactured entirely from 304-stainless steel for superior durability. Our exclusive cast, stainless steel engine-to-header flange features specially designed exhaust ports that transition smoothly to the primary tubing. Large diameter 1.7" OD tubing has been used for the primary tubing, and then collects into the 2.375" OD secondary. Exhaust gas exits the header through a specially designed stainless-steel rear flange which mates to the factory catalytic converter.

All emissions control devices are retained, and a CARB emissions exemption is under consideration. Each header kit comes complete with installation instructions and replacement rear gasket. (The stock engine-to-header can be reused if there are not visible signs of distress or wear.)

EGR Plug* This block off cap can be used to block off the EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) fitting on the Racing Beat (or comparable) header for racing applications. This fitting can be used on the male EGR fitting on a 1994-97 or 2001-05 Miata header. (We do not offer a fitting for the female fitting on the 1999-00 Miata application.)


*In California this product is only for racing vehicles, which may never be used upon a highway.
