Product Description

supermiata boxmount brackets for 90 05 miata

Forged 4140 CrMo steel light flywheel

For 1.8 Mazda BP engine 225mm clutch: OEM size on 94-05 MX5 Miata

  • 4140 CrMo steel one piece construction
  • 8.8 lbs – (stock 19 lbs)
  • Chamfered ring gear for smooth starter engagement
  • Exceeds SFI 1.1 Specification
  • Pre-balanced, ready to install
  • Does not require special fasteners – reuse your OEM pressure plate and flywheel bolts
  • Works with any brand OEM-style 1.8 Miata clutch

Flywheel can be used with a 1.8 clutch and bolted to 1.6L Miata engine for greater power holding capacity

Make your engine super fast revving. Makes heel toe rev-matched downshifting much easier. You may experience some increase in drive train noise at idle and on deceleration. Driveability is very good, no problem taking off from a dead stop.

NOTE: This flywheel will only bolt to a 225mm 1.8 clutch. 200mm 1.6 clutch will not fit this flywheel.

Great Flywheel : For reference I have a NA6 Miata with the Super Miata 1.8 lightweight flywheel paired with Flyin Miata’s Happy meal clutch which is probably the most magical pairing ever.

NVH – No vibration increase, the car hasn’t really changed there,
    – Noise : there is 2 new sounds that come with the car,

    1. A somewhat quiet but noticeable decel noise ( 2-3/10 ) which sounds more like white noise when actually driving.

    2. There is a light rattle/chirp at idle that goes away when you engage the clutch. ( 1-3/10). Just happens when you have lighter flywheels; neither of these sounds are really annoying or noticeable when driving the car and are more just nitpicky things.

    – Harshness : the car takes a fair bit more gas to slip the clutch and go from a stop. This isn’t as noticeable until you’re on a hill where it becomes crucial to not to stall the car. I’m usually in the 1800 RPM range when going from a stop on an incline.

It is also important to note for driving the car properly since the car is now capable of shifting faster you have to shift faster along with it or your RPM’s will drop about a grand before you make it to the next gear, ( lurching the car ). This can be remedied if you double clutch upshift; just know if you’re a slow shifter you will have to adapt to drive it smoothly.

    The Pros :

    1. this car feels unlocked. Shifting up and down is so much faster and easier; the car doesn’t feel like it has to work to downshift, it just slips into gear like butter
    2. The engine is far more rev happy, when you push the pedal the car actually moves now; what you sacrifice in small sounds here and there ( along with very low end torque 1-2000 RPM ) pays large dividends when you’re driving the car around. It revs how a Miata should rev and dials in when you’re sending it.
    3. A note – while it revs far better do not go into it thinking it’s going to be like a hyperbike where it can span 7,000 RPM’s in a second then drop instantly. It is not that overly aggressive and is really pleasant to daily drive with. I daily drove this car for about 700 miles during the break in period and it was an absolute pleasure.

Final thoughts : For a 9lb flywheel feels almost OEM+ in driveability, and unlocks a part of your Miata that you didn’t know was available. I would absolutely recommend this to my friends Miata’s it is a wonderful addition to the car that makes it so much more memorable and pleasant to drive ( not for nothing but it’s also cheaper than Flyin Miata’s. )
